The incident occurred when the rear passenger lost his balance, falling into the roadway, where he was struck by a northbound semi-truck. Emergency responders, including Spokane Fire, attempted life-saving measures but could not revive the victim, who died at the scene. The semi-truck driver cooperated with law enforcement and showed no signs of impairment, indicating that the accident was not due to driver negligence. Authorities closed the area for several hours to conduct a thorough investigation of the scene.
