Assault suspect in custody after overnight standoff

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane police arrested Ian S. Richart, 28, on July 18, 2025, after a tense overnight standoff connected to a felony assault that occurred on June 27. Richart was armed and barricaded himself in an attic, making communication attempts futile. He escalated the situation by briefly holding a resident at gunpoint after breaking into a neighboring apartment. The Spokane Police Department deployed multiple units, including SWAT and hostage negotiators, to ensure a safe resolution.

After police introduced chemical munitions into the attic, Richart fled but was quickly detained by officers. He faces serious charges, including 1st Degree Burglary, 1st Degree Kidnapping, and 1st Degree Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. Alderson, 27, was also arrested for attempting to elude police and has an unrelated felony warrant. This incident highlights the effective response of law enforcement to a dangerous situation in the Spokane Valley.
