City of Spokane Announces New Deputy Police Ombuds

Spokane appointed Lissa Mascio as the new Deputy Police Ombuds, selected from a competitive national search. Mascio comes from New Hampshire, where she served as the Deputy and acting Legislative and Policy Director for the Office of the Child Advocate. Her experience includes prosecuting homicides and advocating for domestic violence victims, enhancing her qualifications for the role. Bart Logue, the Police Ombuds, emphasized her strong legal background and analytical skills as pivotal for oversight processes. Spokane Police Chief Kevin Hall expressed optimism about Mascio's ability to foster community trust and accountability.

Detective Dave Dunkin, President of the Spokane Police Guild, highlighted the impressive pool of candidates and affirmed that Mascio’s hiring is a positive step for police oversight. Mascio, originally from Queens, New York, holds a B. A. in Journalism and English and a law degree from Hofstra Law School. Outside of work, she enjoys community theater and traveling with her daughter.
