City of Spokane Announces New Deputy Police Ombuds

Spokane has appointed Lissa Mascio as the new Deputy Police Ombuds following a national search. Mascio comes from New Hampshire, where she served as the Deputy and acting Legislative and Policy Director for the Office of the Child Advocate, focusing on child welfare issues. Her professional experience includes prosecuting child abuse cases and advocating for victims of domestic violence. Spokane Police Chief Kevin Hall highlighted Mascio's legal expertise and commitment to public service, indicating her role will significantly contribute to building trust between the police and the community. Detective Dave Dunkin, Spokane Police Guild President, praised the quality of applicants and affirmed that Mascio’s hiring is a positive development for police oversight.

In her new role, Mascio aims to enhance oversight processes in Spokane. She looks forward to relocating to the city and engaging with the community. Outside of her professional life, Mascio enjoys theater and traveling with her daughter.
