Area Fire Marshals and Surrounding Cities Enact Burn Restrictions

Spokane, WALocal News

Fire Marshals in the Spokane Metro Area enacted burn restrictions on June 30, 2025, in response to increased fire risks linked to rising temperatures. The restrictions apply to several cities, including Spokane Valley and Cheney, and ban unauthorized open burning and recreational fires. Fire Marshal Lance Dahl stated that these measures aim to protect the community from human-caused wildfires. Violators of the restrictions may face misdemeanor charges for failing to comply with extinguishment orders. Residents are still allowed to use approved manufactured outdoor devices, such as barbeques and chimineas, under specific guidelines.

The Spokane Valley Fire Department has called for heightened fire safety awareness as conditions remain warm and dry. Authorities are particularly concerned about air quality, urging the public to minimize smoke exposure, especially for vulnerable populations. Additionally, residents are reminded to report any signs of fire immediately to help prevent potential wildfires.
