Area Fire Marshals and Surrounding Cities Enact Burn Restrictions

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane area fire marshals enacted countywide burn restrictions on June 30, 2025, due to heightened fire risks this summer. These restrictions ban unauthorized open burning and recreational fires, addressing the potential for human-caused wildfires as high temperatures are predicted. Fire Marshal Lance Dahl noted that such measures are necessary to safeguard communities and natural lands. Deputy Fire Marshal Ken Johnson called for vigilance among residents to prevent wildfires and protect air quality, particularly for vulnerable populations. The restrictions permit the use of manufactured portable outdoor devices but prohibit backyard fire pits and campfires without chimneys.

Designated campfires may be allowed in certain parks and campgrounds, pending agency approval. Individuals who disregard the burn restrictions can face misdemeanor charges under local fire codes. The community is encouraged to follow guidelines to ensure a safe and smoke-free environment.
