Area Fire Marshals and Surrounding Cities Enact Burn Restrictions

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane area fire marshals implemented burn restrictions effective June 30, 2025, due to elevated wildfire risks despite recent rainfall. This collaborative effort includes agencies from Spokane Valley, Spokane City, and surrounding areas, targeting human-caused wildfires as high temperatures loom. Unauthorized open burning and recreational fires are strictly prohibited, with enforcement measures in place for non-compliance. Fire Marshal Lance Dahl highlighted that these restrictions serve as crucial protection for homes and wildlands during the summer months. The Spokane Valley Fire Department urges residents to stay alert and practice fire safety, particularly given the mild winter and low spring rainfall.

Community members are advised to utilize approved portable outdoor devices while adhering to safety guidelines. The restrictions also aim to safeguard air quality, particularly for children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing health conditions. Violators of the burn restrictions may face misdemeanor charges for failing to extinguish unauthorized fires when ordered.
