Flags Lowered for Coeur d'Alene Fire Department and Kootenai County Fire and Rescue

Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown has ordered flags at City facilities to be lowered to half-staff in memory of two firefighters ambushed and killed while responding to a brush fire on June 29, 2025. The victims were members of the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department and Kootenai County Fire and Rescue. Mayor Brown stated, "Our hearts are with the community of Coeur d’Alene in the wake of this devastating tragedy. " She conveyed condolences to the families affected and expressed solidarity with the grieving community. This tragic event underscores the dangers faced by firefighters and first responders in the line of duty.

The City of Spokane will honor the fallen heroes while encouraging community support for those impacted.
