Area Fire Marshals and Surrounding Cities Enact Burn Restrictions

Spokane, WALocal News

A Countywide Burn Restriction took effect in the Spokane Metro Area on June 30, 2025, as fire marshals responded to heightened wildfire risks. The restrictions prohibit unauthorized open burning and recreational fires, including backyard fire pits and campfires, to reduce human-caused wildfire incidents. Fire Marshal Lance Dahl highlighted the necessity of these measures to safeguard the community. The Spokane Valley Fire Department urged residents to practice fire safety and report any signs of fire. Violators of the restrictions may be charged with a misdemeanor if they fail to extinguish unauthorized fires when ordered.

Officials noted that warm and dry conditions have exacerbated fire risks this season. Additionally, the burn restrictions aim to protect air quality, particularly for younger and elderly individuals and those with respiratory issues. Community cooperation is vital to preventing wildfires and maintaining a safe environment.
