On June 18, 2025, at about 3:45 p. m. , Spokane Fire Battalion 1 observed a smoke column while providing mutual aid for another wildfire. Responding swiftly, crews discovered a grass and brush fire under an acre in a timbered area at the 2900 block of West Thorpe Road. Firefighters from multiple agencies, including the Spokane Fire Department and Washington State Department of Natural Resources, engaged the fire and successfully contained it within an hour.

The rapid response prevented further damage and allowed crews to begin mopping up hot spots. Investigators are probing the fire's suspicious cause, seeking information about a dark-colored Ford Ranger seen leaving the vicinity shortly after the fire broke out.
