Pedestrian and Bike Improvement Projects Begin Next Week

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane is set to improve pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure with two projects starting June 30, focusing on Lincoln St. and Maxwell Ave. The Lincoln St. project involves creating buffered bike lanes, widening sidewalks, and installing a new traffic signal at Broadway Ave. , leading to full closures and detours for motorists.

The project is expected to last through September. In contrast, the Maxwell Ave. upgrades will enhance safety with new sidewalks and crosswalks, aiming for completion in October. Both projects are funded, in part, by Washington’s Climate Commitment Act, which supports climate action and public health initiatives. Drivers should anticipate slower speeds and traffic delays during construction.

Local residential access will remain intact, and businesses will remain accessible, encouraging community support. The city urges all road users to plan ahead and drive cautiously to ensure safety.
