City Closures Planned for Juneteenth
Spokane City Hall and various municipal services will close on Juneteenth, June 19, to honor the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans. The Spokane Municipal Court, Community Justice Services, and all Spokane Public Library branches will also close for the holiday. On-street parking will be free, but all other parking rules, including time limits, will remain in effect. Garbage, recycling, and food waste services will continue as scheduled, and the Waste-to-Energy facility will remain open. Spokane 311 employees will be available for customer service inquiries on Juneteenth.
Riverfront Park attractions, including the Looff Carrousel, Numerica SkyRide, and splash pads, will operate normally. The Spokane City Council is set to meet on June 23 for a legislative session. Juneteenth commemorates a significant milestone in American history, marking the end of slavery in the United States.
