City Closures Planned for Juneteenth
Spokane City Hall and several municipal services will close on Juneteenth, June 19, to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans. Spokane Municipal Court, Community Justice Services, and all branches of the Spokane Public Library will also observe the holiday. However, garbage, recycling, and food waste services will continue as normal, ensuring that essential waste management remains uninterrupted. On-street parking meters will not require payment, but time limits will still apply during the holiday. Attractions at Riverfront Park, such as the Looff Carrousel and Numerica SkyRide, will be open, along with city golf courses and splash pads.
Spokane City Council will convene on June 23 for a legislative meeting, with coverage available on CityCable 5 and their website. The observance of Juneteenth underscores the city's commitment to recognizing significant historical events.
