Pedestrian and Bike Improvement Projects Begin Next Week

Spokane, WALocal News

Spokane initiates two pedestrian and bicycle improvement projects on June 30, focusing on Lincoln St. and Maxwell Ave. The Lincoln St. project will introduce buffered bike lanes, widened sidewalks, and a new traffic signal, aiming to improve safety. This work will close Lincoln St.

between Boone Ave. and Sinto Ave. until September, requiring detours for drivers. The Maxwell Ave. project will enhance connectivity to community centers and parks through new sidewalks and bike lanes, with an expected completion in October.

Funding for the Maxwell Ave. improvements comes from Washington's Climate Commitment Act, which aims to reduce climate pollution while creating jobs and enhancing public health. Both projects emphasize the importance of supporting local businesses during construction. Motorists should prepare for delays and reduced speeds as work progresses. Local residential access will remain open throughout the projects.
