On June 18, 2025, Spokane firefighters quickly contained a suspicious brush fire in Latah Valley. Battalion 1 observed a smoke column at 3:45 p. m. while providing mutual aid for another wildfire and immediately requested a wildland response. Crews arrived within ten minutes to find a grass and brush fire burning under an acre in a timbered area.

Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Spokane Fire Department, Washington State Department of Natural Resources, and Spokane County Fire District 10, the fire was contained, allowing firefighters to mop up hot spots shortly after. Investigators have classified the fire's cause as suspicious and are seeking information about a dark-colored Ford Ranger seen leaving the area after the fire started.
