One Dead in Alleged DUI Hit-and-Run on I-90 at Milepost 23

A 66-year-old man from Bellevue died on June 19 after being struck by a vehicle while crossing westbound Interstate 90 at milepost 23. The Washington State Patrol reported that the man ran from the right shoulder to the left shoulder when he was hit by a black 2015 Toyota Sequoia traveling westbound. The driver, a 42-year-old from Sammamish, fled the scene but was apprehended after traveling approximately one mile. Authorities suspect DUI as a factor in the crash and may charge the driver with vehicular homicide and hit-and-run. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, with his name withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The roadway was closed for nearly four hours during the investigation. Fatal pedestrian accidents have raised concerns about road safety in the area. The Washington State Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
