Body Recovered from Snoqualmie River Near Riverview Park Identified as Missing Lake Tapps Man

Authorities confirmed the body recovered from the Snoqualmie River on June 7 belonged to 67-year-old Randy Burkel of Lake Tapps, who had been missing since May 13. Burkel, suffering from dementia, was reported missing after his vehicle was found abandoned off Tokul Road SE, prompting a Silver Alert. Search efforts by King County and local rescue teams were extensive but ultimately unsuccessful, leading to speculation that a passerby might have picked him up. A paddleboarder discovered the body near Riverview Park and promptly contacted authorities. Officers from the Snoqualmie Police Department secured the scene and enlisted the King County Search and Rescue and Dive Team for recovery efforts.

The King County Medical Examiner listed drowning as the presumed cause of death, while the manner remains undetermined. This tragic incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by individuals with dementia and their families. Community awareness and effective search strategies are critical in preventing similar occurrences in the future.
