Snoqualmie Tribe Awards $50,000 Grant to Mt. Si Senior Center, Strengthening Commitment to Community Elders
The Snoqualmie Tribe has awarded a $50,000 grant to the Mt. Si Senior Center (MSSC), significantly boosting its ability to provide essential services to older adults in the Snoqualmie Valley. This grant allows MSSC to continue offering vital programs, including nutritious meals, fitness classes, and social activities that enhance seniors' quality of life. The relationship between the Tribe and MSSC is founded on a deep respect for elders, as emphasized by Tribal Council member Angela Young, who stated, "Our elders eat first. " Executive Director Susan Kingsbury-Comeau expressed heartfelt appreciation for the grant, noting that it would greatly enhance the center's capabilities.
The funding will help improve facilities, support health and wellness initiatives, and create enriching activities for seniors. Tribal Council members Chrissie Sparling and McKenna Sweet Dorman personally delivered the news of the grant, highlighting the Tribe's commitment to community engagement. This partnership not only strengthens the services provided to seniors but also reinforces cultural values centered around honoring and celebrating elders. Together, the Snoqualmie Tribe and MSSC aim to ensure that seniors in the community are supported, respected, and cherished as integral members of society.
