NEW Downtown Chimes and Siren Now Signal Noon Hour in Snoqualmie
The historic fire siren in downtown Snoqualmie will be joined by the gentle chimes of the United Methodist Church bells starting November 1, 2025. This change aims to create a more welcoming atmosphere for visitors while preserving the town's historical soundscape. Proposed by longtime resident Carol Peterson, the compromise received support from the SnoValley Chamber and church members. The fire siren, originating from the old fire station, has historically signaled active fires and called firefighters to action. The church bells will chime before the siren, fostering a harmonious blend of sounds.
This initiative honors the memories of past mayor Charles Peterson and electrical wizard Ed Wenty, whose son continues to monitor the siren today. With both the fire siren and the church boasting over 100 years of history, maintaining this tradition is seen as vital for the community's identity. Local businesses and church members emphasize the importance of celebrating Snoqualmie's rich heritage through these sounds.
