NEW Downtown Chimes and Siren Now Signal Noon Hour in Snoqualmie

Snoqualmie, WALocal News

Snoqualmie will introduce church bells alongside its traditional noon fire siren on November 1, 2025, to create a more welcoming atmosphere for visitors. The city’s decision follows a positive vote from the SnoValley Chamber and members of the Snoqualmie United Methodist Church. This compromise, suggested by longtime resident Carol Peterson, aims to honor the historical significance of both sounds in the community. The fire siren, originally from the old fire station, has been a key feature in Snoqualmie, calling firefighters to action for decades. Church bells will chime first, followed by a shortened version of the fire siren.

This initiative pays tribute to past mayor Charles Peterson and electrical wizard Ed Wenty, with Ed's son currently overseeing the siren’s function. Both the siren and the church have rich histories spanning over 100 years, reflecting the community's commitment to preserving its heritage. Continuing this tradition is seen as vital by local businesses and church members alike.
