Snoqualmie Tribe Expands Support for Families Impacted by Federal SNAP Suspension

Snoqualmie, WALocal News

The Snoqualmie Indian Tribe donated over $1,019,000 to various nonprofit organizations in Washington, with a significant portion aimed at food services to combat rising food insecurity due to federal SNAP suspensions. Among these donations, $130,000 specifically targets local organizations that provide free food access, including the Snoqualmie Valley Food Bank and Mt. Si Senior Center. These organizations serve vulnerable populations, including seniors and low-income families, and will utilize the funds to enhance their food programs. The Tribe is strengthening its community support by partnering with the Snoqualmie Casino & Resort to donate surplus prepared foods to the food bank.

Additionally, a gas discount program will ease transportation costs for individuals visiting local food banks. The Tribe also plans to donate turkeys for the holidays and provide grants to childcare facilities to improve food access for youth. This proactive approach underscores the Tribe's dedication to ensuring food security for its community members during challenging times. The current government shutdown and reduced SNAP funding have intensified the urgency of these efforts.
