Its Official City's Request to Reduce Housing Growth Target Number Ratified by King County

Snoqualmie, WALocal News

King County ratified Snoqualmie's request to reduce its housing growth target from 1,500 to 719 units, acknowledging the city's limited land capacity. The original target, approved in 2022, was deemed unrealistic after a comprehensive study revealed that most of Snoqualmie's land is already developed or constrained. Mayor Ross formally requested the adjustment in March 2024, following the study's findings. The King County Growth Management Planning Council unanimously supported the request in Spring 2025, indicating a collaborative approach to regional planning. The King County Council approved the request in July 2025, and following a 90-day review period, the ratification was finalized on October 22, 2025.

Mayor Ross highlighted the importance of this decision for promoting responsible growth while maintaining the city's character. The new target allows for the expansion of affordable housing options for local residents. This adjustment reflects a growing recognition of the need for sustainable urban development in Washington state.
