Snoqualmie Noon Siren to be Expanded
The SnoValley Chamber of Commerce and the United Methodist Church plan to ring both the church bell and fire siren at noon starting November 1, 2025. The initiative, introduced by Snoqualmie native Carol Peterson, aims to celebrate local history while easing tourist concerns about the fire siren's volume. Both sounds have over a century of significance in the community, with the fire siren historically serving as a call to action for firefighters. This compromise honors the legacies of former mayor Charles Peterson and electrical expert Ed Wentz, both of whom have passed. The church bell will ring gently before the fire siren, creating a more comforting auditory experience for residents and visitors alike.
Russ Wentz, son of Ed Wentz, continues to monitor the siren, ensuring it remains operational. Local businesses and church members emphasize the importance of preserving this tradition for future generations. The initiative reflects community values and the desire to maintain historical practices while adapting to modern concerns.
