North Bend Recognizes Week Without Driving, Sept. 29Oct. 5

Snoqualmie, WALocal News

Mayor Mary Miller proclaimed September 29 through October 5 as Week Without Driving in North Bend, joining a statewide initiative to address transportation challenges for nondrivers. At a recent City Council meeting, she encouraged community members to explore alternatives such as public transit, biking, and walking. Approximately one-third of Washington residents are nondrivers, including seniors, young people, and those with disabilities. Lyn McCarthy of Hopelink's Snoqualmie Valley Mobility Coalition highlighted the critical need for accessible transportation to support individuals seeking employment and essential services, particularly in rural regions. The Week Without Driving program aims to help participants understand the barriers faced by those reliant on alternative transportation methods.

By engaging with non-drivers, the campaign seeks to inspire community members to advocate for more inclusive transportation solutions. Residents can view the full proclamation on the City of North Bend website. This initiative hopes to spark conversations about transportation choices and their impact on the community.
