Youth Heritage Project Explores the Mountains to Sound Greenway National Heritage Area
The Youth Heritage Project (YHP) by the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation will take place in North Bend from July 14-17, engaging 40 high school students from 26 communities across Washington. This educational initiative focuses on local history, culture, and conservation, with free participation made possible through partnerships with the National Park Service and the Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation. Students will participate in various activities, including a walking tour of downtown North Bend, hiking around Snoqualmie Falls, and working on group interpretation projects. The highlight will be a Town Hall meeting where students present their projects to experts, fostering community engagement. The program aims to inspire the next generation of leaders to connect with their local heritage.
YHP 2025 receives additional funding from various local organizations, ensuring a comprehensive educational experience. The event also emphasizes the importance of cultural resource management and environmental stewardship. This initiative represents a significant investment in youth education and community involvement.
