SR 18 to Close for Eight Days as New I-90 Diverging Diamond Interchange Prepares to Open

Snoqualmie, WALocal News

The SR 18 will close for eight days starting July 17 as the new diverging diamond interchange at I-90 prepares to open. This closure facilitates the completion of essential construction tasks, including drainage, electrical work, and traffic signal setup, while shifting traffic patterns to enhance safety. Eastbound and westbound I-90 will remain accessible, but SR 18 will be fully closed underneath the overpass, with detours directed via nearby interchanges. Freight drivers are reminded to avoid city streets unsuitable for large vehicles. Prior to the full closure, additional ramp closures will impact access to I-90, including the closure of the SR 18 on-ramp.

During the first night of full closure, crews will restripe the ramps to accommodate the new design. Upon reopening on July 25, the diverging diamond configuration will significantly reduce collision points from 26 to 14, improving traffic flow and safety. The project will continue with further paving and widening efforts expected to be completed this fall.
