State budget has money toward fixing 522, replacing synthetic turf at Rotary Field

Snohomish, WALocal News

The Washington state budget allocates $17. 19 million for the widening of state Route 522 and $360,000 for replacing the artificial turf at Monroe Rotary Field. The SR 522 project will enhance safety and improve fish passage, with construction funding yet to be approved. The turf replacement is critical as the current field is six years past its life expectancy and serves individuals needing additional assistance. Mayor Geoffrey Thomas thanked local advocates for their support, highlighting the projects' roles in promoting community connectivity and accessibility.

State Sen. Keith Goehner expressed satisfaction with the ongoing improvements, while Rep. Sam Low noted the importance of maintaining project momentum amid budget cuts. The projects were identified as priorities by the Monroe City Council for 2025. The field attracts over 10,000 visitors from across Washington, reinforcing its status as a regional hub for youth recreation.

Funding for SR 522 will enhance access for Monroe students attending school in Maltby.
