Providence Everetts trauma clinicians do outreach, too

Snohomish, WALocal News

Providence Regional Medical Center Everett stands as the only Level 2 Adult Trauma Center in Snohomish County, treating over 4,000 trauma patients annually, with more than 2,000 requiring hospital admission. The center serves a diverse catchment area, addressing the needs of vulnerable populations while providing critical care closer to home. Falls are the leading cause of trauma cases, with many injuries stemming from workplace incidents, particularly at Boeing construction sites. The center emphasizes community education through programs like “Stop the Bleed,” which trains civilians to assist in emergencies. Collaboration with Snohomish County EMS is vital for efficient patient transport in the region's challenging geography.

Trauma injury prevention coordinator Sarah Brouwer notes the importance of tailored fall prevention training for seniors, as falls are a leading cause of injury among older adults. Advancements in emergency care, including training EMS teams to administer whole blood in the field, mark significant progress in trauma response. Looking ahead, Providence Everett plans to expand outreach to underserved communities to enhance access to trauma prevention education.
