AG Brown sues 5 WA apartments for deceiving senior tenants

Snohomish, WALocal News

Attorney General Nick Brown has taken legal action against five apartment complexes in Western Washington, claiming they deceived low-income senior tenants. The lawsuit, filed in Snohomish County Superior Court, targets FPI Management for alleged violations of the Consumer Protection Act. Tenants report undisclosed rent increases and significant discrepancies between advertised and actual property conditions. Brown highlighted the challenges seniors face in moving once they’ve signed a lease, calling the situation egregious. The complexes, marketed as "luxury" living, reportedly have broken amenities and safety concerns, leading to trespassing and vandalism.

The complaint seeks an injunction to halt these practices, civil penalties of $12,500 per violation, and restitution for impacted tenants. FPI Management's failure to disclose critical information about rent calculations based on Area Median Income has also been called into question. This legal action underscores the growing scrutiny of housing practices affecting vulnerable populations.
