Sharing Wheels, a nonprofit bike shop in Everett, collaborates with North Middle School to run a Youth Bike Club that teaches safe cycling practices and bike maintenance. This initiative, currently in its second season, aims to increase youth cycling within the community. Students learn critical skills such as braking techniques and gear shifting while participating in obstacle courses designed to enhance their riding abilities. Those who attend all meetings receive a new bike, encouraging consistent participation. Local advocates, including Youth Program Manager Kristen Kosidowski, highlight the positive impact of cycling on community health.

Rachel Longest from Cascade Bicycle Club, who oversees the curriculum, notes the importance of foundational cycling skills. The program also emphasizes the significance of road safety, including the use of hand signals and awareness of surroundings. As the Youth Bike Club continues to grow, it fosters a culture of cycling among local youth, promoting both fitness and community engagement.
