Countys homeless hotel in Everett closer to opening

Snohomish, WALocal News

The Everett New Start Center will transform the former Days Inn into emergency housing for the homeless, with plans to open in November 2025. County officials confirmed that permits for the facility were approved after a May 7 County Council meeting. The center will feature 75 units and offer essential services such as medical aid and job resources, aiming to support individuals in their transition to permanent housing. The total budget for the project is about $37 million, funded through the federal American Rescue Plan Act and a county sales tax dedicated to affordable housing. The Salvation Army will manage the center and has received approval from the city for its management plan.

Each unit will include essential furnishings, while common areas will provide additional amenities for residents. The Everett New Start Center represents a significant effort by Snohomish County to address homelessness in the area, following the establishment of a similar center in Edmonds. County officials view these centers as crucial steps in the broader strategy to combat homelessness in the region.
