Edgewater Bridge replacement slipping to spring 2026 due to complications

Snohomish, WALocal News

The Edgewater Bridge replacement will be postponed until spring 2026 due to complications encountered during construction. City engineer Tom Hood explained that drilling for steel piles faced obstructions from old timber and concrete, which were not identified before construction began. As of May 5, crews have started the careful demolition of the 79-year-old bridge, and the city is meeting weekly with contractors to explore ways to minimize delays. Public works director Ryan Sass expressed empathy for the community's frustration regarding the timeline. The project carries a budget of $34 million, with $28 million sourced from federal grants.

The new bridge aims to enhance seismic resilience, addressing safety concerns for the surrounding areas. The city continues to monitor progress closely as they navigate these challenges. Local officials stress the importance of completing the project efficiently to ensure community connectivity.
