Fosse to exit City Council, making District 1 seat open

Snohomish, WALocal News

Councilwoman Mary Fosse announced she will not run for re-election, endorsing Sam Hem as her successor for Council District 1. She plans to complete her term, which ends in December, emphasizing that passing the torch to Hem is the best way to serve her constituents. Fosse previously served as a state Representative after winning a seat in 2022, demonstrating her influence in local politics. Hem, a business agent for the local sheet metal workers union, will face Mason Rutledge and potentially others in the upcoming election, with candidate filing running until May 9. Fosse's political journey includes reconstructing the Delta Neighborhood Association approximately ten years ago.

She has expressed her commitment to the state legislature, stating that her skills are better aligned with that role. Fosse has started paperwork to fundraise for a potential re-election campaign in 2026. Her decision to step back from the council reflects a strategic move to focus on broader legislative efforts.
