Climber fell 100 feet off Index town 'wall' climbing area, causing tricky rescue Saturday
A 47-year-old female climber fell 100 feet from the Town of Index climbing wall on April 26, leading to a complex rescue operation. She landed about 20 feet up on a buttress, where fellow climbers, including nurses and an ER technician, provided immediate care. Official rescuers utilized the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office SnoHawk helicopter to hoist her to safety and transport her to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett. Although she sustained painful knee and head injuries, her condition was deemed non-life-threatening. Sky Valley Fire emphasized the success of their Rope Rescue team, which regularly trains on the climbing wall, highlighting the importance of preparedness.
A former climber had previously warned novices about the challenges of this wall in "Climbing Magazine. " This incident underscores the risks associated with rock climbing and the necessity for proper training and emergency response. The woman's hometown remains undisclosed.
