Teen golf caddies get full-ride college scholarships

Kevin Li and Esther Yapjoco, two Washington teens, received full-ride college scholarships from the Chick Evans Scholarship program, which honors caddies for their academic excellence and caddying records. Li, 18, caddies at the Seattle Golf Club and holds a 3. 8 GPA, aiming to attend the University of Washington. Yapjoco, 17, is homeschooled and a member of the Jackson varsity girls golf team, with an unweighted 3. 9 GPA, also planning to enroll at UW-Seattle.

Both students shared how their caddying experiences shaped their character and ignited their passion for golf. Li recalled the discipline required for early morning tee times, while Yapjoco expressed her enjoyment in meeting new people on the course. Their scholarships reflect the importance of commitment and hard work, as Li stated, “If you put in the effort, you will eventually reap the reward. ” The Chick Evans Scholarship program has a history of supporting young caddies, making a significant impact on their educational opportunities. Their achievements highlight the benefits of extracurricular activities in shaping future leaders.
