Snohomish County will hold two open house meetings in May to introduce its first Community Wildfire Protection Plan. The sessions aim to educate residents about wildfire risks and preparedness strategies. Lucia Schmit, the director of Emergency Management, emphasized the importance of keeping families and pets safe. The gatherings are scheduled for May 15 in Arlington and May 22 in Startup, running from 5:30 p. m.

to 7:30 p. m. Attendees will engage with first responders and view maps detailing wildfire risk in the area. Approximately 130,000 residents, or over 15% of the county’s population, live in high-risk wildland urban interface zones. The county's wildfire season typically spans from early July through fall, with the 2022 Bolt Creek Fire highlighting the growing intensity of these events.
