A head-on collision on March 9 along state Route 9 near Snohomish critically injured Gina Veloni and her daughter when their Honda was struck by a Volvo driven by a 39-year-old woman who had open containers of alcohol in her vehicle. The driver, who reported not having installed her ignition interlock device, registered a staggering blood-alcohol level of 0. 254 during a breath scan. Veloni remains hospitalized after undergoing six surgeries, grappling with severe injuries and the emotional toll of nearly losing her life. Her daughter, a talented multisport athlete, spent three days in the hospital and is now recovering.

Legal actions against the causing driver are still unfolding, with charges pending as authorities await toxicology results from her blood draw. Veloni's attorney emphasizes the financial burden of medical claims, noting that insurance companies often delay payments until settlements are reached. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by impaired driving and the challenges that victims face in securing adequate medical support.
