Executive Somers Proposes Biennial Budget Focused on Sustaining Services

Snohomish, WALocal News

Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers has unveiled a proposed $3 billion biennial budget focused on sustaining essential services and fostering a financially sustainable future. A significant portion, over 75%, of the General Fund is dedicated to law and justice agencies, including the Sheriff’s Office and Courts, to maintain current service levels. The budget also allocates partial funding for three critical new positions, ensuring compliance with state law changes and enhancing operational oversight for important projects. Environmental protection efforts are a key component, with initiatives aimed at restoring habitats for salmon and collaborating on sustainable land strategies with local tribes. The budget also emphasizes the need to address the ongoing drug crisis, supporting various programs and health services, including the STI Clinic.

As the county navigates these challenges, the proposed budget reflects a commitment to public safety, health, and environmental stewardship. This comprehensive approach aims to balance immediate needs with long-term sustainability. The proposal serves as a crucial step towards securing the county's future while addressing pressing community concerns.
