Executive Somers announces Mike Fong as new Executive Director for Economic Development

Mike Fong has been appointed as the new Executive Director for Economic Development in Snohomish County, starting in 2025. With a wealth of experience from his previous role as the County's Chief Recovery and Resilience Officer, Fong successfully coordinated $160 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act funds. His tenure in public service also includes significant roles such as Regional Administrator for the U. S. Small Business Administration and deputy mayor of Seattle.

Fong is enthusiastic about rejoining Snohomish County, emphasizing its dynamic and diverse economy, which presents unique opportunities for innovation and job creation. He commends Executive Somers for advocating a holistic approach to economic development, which he believes is crucial for fostering vibrant communities. Fong’s background includes accolades such as the International Examiner’s Community Voice Award for civic leadership. He will replace Neepaporn “A” Boungjaktha, who is transitioning to the Port of Seattle as managing director of Economic Development. Fong's fluency in Cantonese and educational credentials, including a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Washington, further enhance his profile.
