Local band named Cytrus raises more than 1,500 for food insecurity in one evening

Snohomish, WALocal News

On November 2, the local band Cytrus raised nearly $1,600 during a livestream event to support the Snohomish Boys & Girls Club's Meal-in-a-Bag program. This initiative addresses food insecurity caused by a government shutdown and the suspension of SNAP benefits, which affects over 77,000 residents in Snohomish County. According to Program Director Jordan Saunders, one in four families at the club relies on government assistance. The funds will enable the club to provide 20 meal bags per week for eight weeks, extending aid to the Arlington Boys & Girls Club with an additional five bags weekly. Squires, the band's vocalist, emphasized the inspiring nature of using music to give back to the community.

The Boys & Girls Club plans to reallocate funds to provide home essentials as SNAP benefits return. Cytrus aims to continue supporting local causes through their Spotlight Series of livestream events. Community members can contribute by filling stockings or contacting Saunders for more information.
