Bird flu in Monroe found in Lake Tye Park duck
The Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife confirmed that a Mallard duck at Sky River Park in Monroe tested positive for bird flu. Following this discovery, WDFW staff removed the infected duck, and additional symptomatic birds were taken from Lake Tye. The Washington State Department of Health has comprehensive resources about avian influenza available online. While bird flu viruses generally do not spread easily from birds to humans, prolonged contact with sick birds can elevate the risk of transmission. Symptoms of bird flu in birds include head tilting, lack of coordination, and lethargy.
Residents are urged to report any sick, injured, or dead birds to WDFW and contact the Monroe Parks Department at 360-863-4559. This situation underscores the need for vigilance in monitoring local wildlife health. Officials stress the importance of proper hygiene to mitigate potential risks to human health.
