City of Lake Stevens could see community rec center with pools, regional indoor sports spot within Cavalero Hill Park
Lake Stevens aims to develop a regional recreation and sports complex at Cavalero Hill Park, which it recently acquired from Snohomish County. The city is soliciting bids for a partner to construct and manage the facility, which could feature an indoor synthetic turf complex and various community services, with costs potentially reaching $70 million. Parks and Recreation Director Sarah Garceau noted the pressing need for more sports facilities for local youth, highlighting the city's current lack of resources. The complex's construction might take five to ten years, and wetlands restrictions will limit outdoor facility development. A 2019 feasibility study had identified Cavalero Hill Park as a prime location, suggesting a facility size of 65,000 to 80,000 square feet.
The city aims to secure funding through public, private, or mixed means as it evaluates bids after the December 10 deadline. Garceau envisions a multi-story building that creatively utilizes the available space to include various recreational elements. The project seeks to enhance community engagement and provide essential services for all age groups in Lake Stevens.
