Bird flu found in Everett-area flock

Snohomish, WALocal News

Agricultural officials confirmed a bird flu outbreak in a backyard flock of ducks in Everett, reported on November 7, 2025. The highly contagious virus poses significant risks to both poultry and humans, prompting the establishment of a 10-mile risk watch zone around central Everett. Symptoms of infection include lethargy, green feces, and neurological signs, such as geese walking in circles. To mitigate risks, authorities urge flock owners to refrain from using outdoor water sources and to cover open spaces in pens during migratory bird season. Cleaning up food spills is essential to prevent attracting wild birds, which can transmit the virus.

Rats are also known to carry bird flu, further complicating the issue. The state has created a Facebook group for ongoing alerts to help poultry owners stay informed. This outbreak highlights the importance of biosecurity measures in protecting local flocks from avian diseases.
