Food banks prepare for holiday season in Snohomish County

Food banks in Snohomish County have seen a dramatic rise in clients following the suspension of SNAP benefits on November 1, which affected 72,590 residents. The Sky Valley Food Bank reported a weekly increase of 44 new households seeking assistance. Matthew Campbell highlighted that the current strain on food systems parallels the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, although funding was more robust then. Community contributions have surged, with the United Way of Snohomish County providing a $50,000 Emergency Grant to assist local food banks. The VOA Food Bank in Everett experienced a 10 percent increase in new clients, reflecting the urgent need for assistance.
