The Everett Police are spearheading a criminal investigation following the determination from the Everett Fire Marshal's Office. The play area, which had only been opened for public use since May 2024, is now closed until further notice. Witnesses reported seeing smoke from the nearby WSU-Everett buildings, indicating the fire's impact on the community. The Everett Fire Department defined the incident as an incendiary fire, meaning it was intentionally ignited inappropriately.
