Residents worry that more controls needed at Andys Place low-barrier housing apartments
Residents near Andy’s Place, a supportive housing facility in Everett, voice concerns about disturbances such as drug use and loitering in the vicinity. Jose Villalaz, from the Port Gardner Neighborhood Association, reported that security has observed drug activity across the street but cannot respond offsite. Compass Health, which runs the facility, claims these disturbances do not involve their residents or staff and has enhanced security by adding two guards on patrol 24/7. The city established a "no-sit/no-lie" buffer zone around Andy’s Place and recommended increased police patrols to address safety issues. The Everett Police Department's Community Response Team has made over 55 arrests this year, with 90% linked to drug offenses.
While Compass Health has made some improvements, Villalaz believes that more action is needed to ensure safety. Residents have raised concerns about the reliability of security at the facility, suggesting that Compass Health is hesitant to invest further resources. The collaboration between local officials, Compass Health, and the community aims to create a safer environment for all.
