Three Monroe historic buildings to be celebrated Nov. 1
Monroe will honor three historic buildings with a dedication ceremony on Nov. 1 at the Hallan Building. The Dolloff-Key Building, Hallan Building, and former City Hall will receive bronze plaques to signify their historical importance to the community. Trustee Tami Beaumont of the Monroe Historical Society noted that these buildings represent key corners in the city. The plaques were funded through local donations, with contributions of $500 each from the Monroe Rotary, insurance agent Sally Vines, and Judge Patricia Lyon.
Building owners will share their experiences, including how they saved the Dolloff-Key Building from demolition in 1978. These sites date back over a century, with the Dolloff-Key Building constructed after a devastating downtown fire in 1901. Beaumont hopes to recognize additional historic structures, such as the Allison Apartments and other notable buildings. The community's engagement in preserving local history reflects a strong commitment to heritage.
