Docs in Machias told partys over after state raid

Snohomish, WALocal News

State liquor board agents raided Doc’s Riverside Social Club in Machias last week, confiscating 16 kegs and other alcohol for operating without a liquor license. The establishment transitioned to a private members-only club after losing its liquor license due to multiple violations, including issues related to COVID-19 mask mandates. The liquor board previously revoked the license, citing two violations within a two-year span. Julie Graham, a spokesperson for the board, emphasized that all establishments must adhere to liquor laws, even private clubs. Following the raid, the state liquor board plans to ask county prosecutors to pursue criminal charges against the former license holders.

The tavern has a long history, previously known as Doc’s Pilchuck Tavern, before the Sekulich family acquired it in 2019 and renovated the building. The legal troubles for Doc’s included a temporary license suspension for selling alcohol while under suspension. The ongoing issues reflect a broader challenge for establishments attempting to navigate compliance with state liquor laws.
