Snohomish council pauses on limits on e-bikes use

Snohomish, WALocal News

The Snohomish City Council postponed a vote last week on new regulations for electric bike and scooter use in city parks and trails. Council members requested clarification on specific aspects of the proposed rules, which would limit e-bikes to pedal-assist mode on select trails. The aim is to reduce speed differences and enhance pedestrian safety, especially following complaints about e-bikes in the skate park at Averill Field. City officials introduced the idea of these regulations over the summer to address growing concerns about safety on trails. In a related decision, the council authorized a temporary measure requiring separate utility lines for all future detached Accessory Dwelling Units and condominiums.

This six-month control measure aims to close a loophole that permitted shared meters for separate units, which typically should have individual meters. The council's actions reflect ongoing efforts to ensure safety and compliance in the community. Addressing these issues is crucial for maintaining a safe environment for both cyclists and pedestrians in Snohomish.
