North Broadway Bridge between Everett colleges to begin design

Snohomish, WALocal News

Everett will initiate the design work for a pedestrian and bicycle bridge connecting Everett Community College and WSU-Everett later this year, with construction expected to start in summer 2028. The design phase will incur a cost of $2. 5 million, entirely funded by state transportation grants. The state legislature allocated $12. 9 million from the Move Ahead Washington program to support the project, a significant increase in funding priority from previous budgets.

This funding includes $4. 6 million from the 2025-27 budget and $8 million earmarked for 2027-29, as city engineer Tom Hood explained. The bridge will be located north of 10th Street and will be ADA-accessible, enhancing connectivity for students. Local leaders have advocated for this project since 2019, emphasizing its importance for educational accessibility. The state funding sources include a gas tax increase and revenues from the Climate Commitment Act's cap-and-trade system.

Additional construction funding will be sought to ensure the bridge's completion.
